Digital Technologies and Cyber Safety

At Thomastown Meadows Primary School, we are excited to integrate iPads and laptops into teaching and learning from Foundation to Year 6. These devices provide valuable opportunities for students to:

  • Capture and reflect on their learning

  • Develop higher-order thinking skills

  • Publish and present their work

  • Create digital solutions

  • Collaborate with others

These skills help prepare students to thrive in an increasingly connected, technology-rich world.

Teaching Digital Technologies and Cyber Safety

At TMPS, we recognise the importance of teaching students to use technology safely, responsibly and effectively. Alongside the integration of digital devices across the curriculum, we have developed a whole-school Integrated Studies unit of work dedicated to Digital Technologies, cyber safety and the safe use of technology.

These units are differentiated across all year levels and scaffolded to support students’ developing knowledge and skills. They have been designed with reference to the relevant curriculum requirements, ensuring learning is purposeful, age-appropriate and progressively builds on students’ prior knowledge as they move from Foundation to Year 6.

Cyber safety and the responsible use of digital technologies are also explicitly addressed through our Ignite Program at the beginning of each school year. This provides an opportunity for students to revisit essential expectations, establish safe practices and develop an understanding of how to use technology responsibly within the school environment.

Technology Support

We have an onsite technician who supports both teachers and students, helping to ensure that digital devices are used effectively, maintained appropriately and accessible to support teaching and learning.
