Homework

Homework is seen as an important part of your child's learning journey. We believe it gives them a chance to work through the things they have learned at school and an opportunity to revise key understandings.

As part of a comprehensive and balanced curriculum at Thomastown Meadows Primary School, we see homework is one way of supporting and fostering life-long learning and connecting our families with the learning of their child.

Parents and guardians at our school can support their child by developing a positive approach to homework, reading with them, talking with them and involving them in learning opportunities during everyday household routines.

At Thomastown Meadows Primary School, teachers develop appropriate learning opportunities for students that they are encouraged to complete at home.

The homework activities at our school:

  • Compliment and reinforce classroom learning.
  • Foster good lifelong and study habits.
  • Develop self-regulation processes, such as goal setting.
  • Encourage self-efficacy and self-reflection.
  • Enhance time management skills.
  • Further support partnerships with parents by connecting families with the learning of their child.

It is important for children at Thomastown Meadows Primary School to have a balanced lifestyle which includes sufficient time for family, sport and recreation as well as cultural pursuits.

The following is a suggested amount of minimum time to be spent on homework daily, in accordance with the Department of Education guidelines and school expectations:

Foundation: 10 minutes

Year 1/2: 15 minutes

Year 3/4: 30 minutes

Year 5/6: 45 minutes
