Teaching and Learning

At Thomastown Meadows Primary School, our teachers are committed to working together to plan rich, diverse and comprehensive learning experiences which develops the whole child, and is built around the Victorian Curriculum.

Our teams plan collaboratively every week as a Professional Learning Community creating learning experiences for our students that supports our motto of ‘Learning For Life’.

These experiences ensure that we:

  • Cater for our individual student needs and differences.
  • Promote deeper knowledge, key understandings and skills.
  • Develop independent and collaborative learners.
  • Nurture a growth mindset and resilience about how our students see themselves as learners.
  • Link our learning to authentic and real-world experiences.
  • Make, build and create using hands-on and concrete resources.

The Integrated Studies Curriculum is delivered through a two-year cycle, with each unit incorporating a big idea and focus questions for our students to investigate and learn about.

Our students are active participants in their learning. Students at Thomastown Meadows Primary School have voice and agency throughout their learning experiences, empowering them to own their learning growth. This is achieved by our students taking an inquiry stance to identify their wonderings and research information relevant to their queries. As a result of having student voice and agency, our student engagement is enhanced which creates a positive climate for learning.
