Principal's Welcome Letter

Welcome to Thomastown Meadows Primary School

My name is Fiona Rosa, and I have been the Principal at Thomastown Meadows Primary School since 2016. I have a comprehensive background in education and leadership, and a genuine passion for providing the students of Thomastown Meadows Primary School with the best resources and environment to ensure they receive a quality education.

Thomastown Meadows Primary School opened in 1980 and is located in a densely populated residential area. A high proportion of our students come from diverse backgrounds where English is not spoken at home. Thomastown Meadows Primary School is a dynamic school that promotes integrity, lifelong learning and the attainment of excellence. We are committed to providing our students with the highest quality education through the recognition of individual learning styles, effective communication, teamwork, continuous improvement and the development of a strong sense of belonging.

The core purpose of our school, and our ongoing commitment, is to ensure we provide our students with a safe and challenging environment that engages and stimulates them to become lifelong learners with the academic, social and personal skills needed to become productive members of a dynamic, global society.

The school values are Honesty, Empathy and Respect, which were launched with fidelity and commitment as a whole-school community in 2018. These values are at the centre of all our expectations and are evident in all areas of the school. We have worked hard to change the culture of the school to ensure this. We utilise a Rights and Responsibilities approach to behaviour management, supported through various resources and the implementation of the School-Wide Positive Behaviours Framework. The units of work delivered each term have a consistent link to social, emotional and personal learning to ensure ongoing growth for each individual student, and we encourage a positive growth mindset so students see themselves as successful learners.

I am committed to recruiting dedicated teachers who ensure learning is valued, thinking is encouraged, and creativity and imagination are fostered among our students. My staff are passionate and keen to share a love of learning by providing a wealth of opportunities and challenges. The lives of our students are enriched through an engaging range of developmental activities, including specialist programs and various support programs.

Student wellbeing is fostered by strongly linking learning and wellbeing to create a positive school culture. Thomastown Meadows Primary School, in its commitment to promoting and protecting the interests and safety of children, has zero tolerance for child abuse. Everyone involved with Thomastown Meadows Primary School is responsible for the care and protection of children and the reporting of child abuse, and we are accredited in all Child Safety Standards.

At Thomastown Meadows Primary School, we take pride in our strong sense of community presence. Parents and staff share a common goal to develop in our students confidence, a desire for excellence and a sense of responsibility, enabling them to reach their full potential. As a school, we believe students are inspired to reach their goals when there is a strong partnership between home and school.

To develop a sense of belonging within the community, we host a number of annual and biannual whole-school events. Parents participate in many facets of school life, including classroom support, camps, excursions, parent groups, fundraising and volunteer work. The School Council and Parents’ Association provide support and guidance for the school community and act with the best intentions to guide continuous improvement for all at Thomastown Meadows Primary School.

No school can hope to be fully effective without a well-developed community and strong team spirit. It is not equipment, programs or policies that make an effective school, but rather the effectiveness of the people within it. As Principal, I am committed to ensuring all parts of the school community work as a team and focus on increasing educational opportunities for all students, as they are scaffolded from Early Intervention through to Secondary School. The individuality of each student in our community is recognised, valued and supported.

As Principal of Thomastown Meadows Primary School, I am committed to ensuring that, as a collective, we continue to prepare our young people for the future and its many changes and challenges. Our students are part of the global communications explosion through access to technology via our whole-school F–6 one-to-one iPad program. This program sets us apart from other schools in our area.

If you wish to speak with me further about any aspect of our school, please contact me using the school’s details. I look forward to this opportunity.

Keep smiling,

Fiona Rosa
